Faith is often inherited. I'm not sure if that's good or bad, but I'm unpacking my hope chest. I need to see what's in it and decide, for myself, what I shall keep, what I shall discard, what I really believe. This is my journey. Welcome aboard.

Actually I appreciate and welcome you comments! I am much further along my journey than when I wrote this post and actually agree with a lot of what you said. Even if I didn't agree, I would leave your comment. The problem with faith is often that folks are afraid to have theirs challenged. I am not one of those.

I saw this linked to one of my posts and decided to come for a look see.

We give too much weight to the book they call the bible and its idiosyncrasies.

I see two Jesus, the kind, compassionate man and the one who is going to come back and lay waste to humanity spare the "elect".

Seeing I never win lotteries I probably don't fit into the "elect" category and Limbo has been taken away, that leaves only Hell, and to be honest with you I have made my mistakes in life but don't think I deserve a judgment like Adolph Hitler or George Bush may receive.

So I look at what I once cherished, the Gospel with different eyes and the real "Truth" of it comes through once you get past the concept it is the Word of God.

You may delete this comment and I will understand because believers normally do not put up with doubt very well.

I'm a little tickled that you liked this post. I come back here and read it often. Writing it was cathartic. Just when I think I have something new to be angry about with regards to the church I read this post and think, "nope, I said it all."

The church is in a very sad state. I don't believe for a second that it comes close to anything Jesus talked about.

BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO! I hope you don't mind me including this one in my blogroll? I would not change a word! You keep your anger about the state of the church... I believe it to very healthy. It is so hard to find a group of believers that actually believe what the Bible "actually" teaches anymore. I know of only one church in my city that comes close to teaching the truth and only one radio ministry that comes close. It's a sad state and a shame... I know.

Comment on On Sin…and other stuff by foundapotheosis

I used to struggle heavily with trying to overcome the concept (and eventual temptation) to push all of God's blessings, miracles, wonders, peace and joy to the other side (of life), all the while expecting and anticipating only trials, tribulations, sin, death and destruction on this side (of life). I often thought that what we endured, suffered and travailed were deposits that we made in order to ensure a peaceful, heavenly existence after death! However I have discovered that peace, joy, comfort, relief from sin and guilt, love unconditional and real life can be enjoyed this side of death! Listening to the organized church leaders I got very confused, because they always seemed to relate how spiritual you were by how well things went in your life and/or how wealthy you were. If you had all these wonderful praise reports, then you must be real spiritual (behavior sin-free) and God's really pleased with you... or if you had bad reports and/or were always asking for prayer, then you must be really carnal/fleshly (behavior sin-filled) and God's really peeved/disappointed with you. I understand sin very differently now and have truly realized what it means when it says, 'So if the Son [aka the Truth] sets you free, you will be free indeed.'

I feel so bad when people are so often mislead by those who claim to be leaders and teachers within Christianity and are actually covert agents of the other side! I am really rooting for you and your journey of self-discovery as I read on and deeper into your blog! This is like reading a book that I can't wait til it's end. Thanks for being real!

Thanks for leaving a comment here. I still check post to this blog and read all of the comments I receive. You will see as you read through that I am used to living on the fringes where Christians are concerned. I've panned out a little further and am considering what (if anything) in Christianity is the best representation of what I believe.

I'd love to hear your thoughts as you read through.

Welcome!

Seeing how this was more than a year ago, I'm not sure if you even still check this blog! I do feel like I empathize with you about organized religion, however I do still have my beliefs rooted in Christianity. My views and beliefs are very unorthodox, and tend to draw a lot of fire and criticism from a lot of other Christians. I'm just embarking on your blog and hope to catch up to your present day posts. I look forward to getting to know you through your blog! So far, so good.

Sorry I just now saw your response to my comment back in July. May your journey lead you to an incomprehensible fullness of the soul!

Stop by Awaiting Rain often. Feel free to comment any time you like...even to disagree. :-)
